History:
Fathom Resources (Fathom) has over five years of experience specifically managing vessel call ins and observer deployments on scallop vessels throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Fathom has also been managing the deployment of observers for the at-sea monitoring program since October 2011. Fathom currently employs active status observers for both the industry funded scallop program and the at-sea monitoring. Fathom subcontracted NEFOP certified observers to assist NMFS accomplish mandated NEFOP coverage rates.
Fathom employs full time staff members for the sole purpose of ensuring proper execution of observer deployment. This includes the recruitment of new hires, conducting interviews and reference checks, efficient deployment, prompt communication with vessels, and all administrative items related to providing observer coverage.

High quality candidates are a top priority when recruiting individuals for commercial fisheries observers. Candidates undergo a rigorous process to ensure a proper fit as an observer. In addition to the submission of educational requirements, resume, and character references, Fathom staff conduct thorough interviews, via phone, video conference, or in person, to ensure candidates are qualified educationally, as well as physically and mentally. Fathom currently recruits observers through a variety of different media. These include: online advertising; wildlife and fisheries science job boards; networking through current observers; university marketing and job fairs.
