The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division in Newport, R.I., hosted the 2016 Annual Naval Technology Exercise (ANTX) Aug. 16-18 at its Narragansett Bay Test Facility (NBTF).
ANTX is an annual three-day event created by the NUWC Division Newport to demonstrate future Navy technologies in action today. Naval Warfare Centers, universities, and industry partners are invited to showcase their latest unmanned systems and related technologies at the NBTF range. ANTX provides a low-risk environment in which scientists and engineers may evaluate their technological innovations at the research and development level before their technologies become militarized and integrated at the operational level. The focus of this year’s exercise was cross-domain communications and command and control above, on, and under the sea at the operational level.
In addition to NUWC sponsored initiatives, more than 20 additional organizations contributed to the event. Exercises encompassed a broad collection of current work in unmanned systems, sensors, and other technologies of interest to the Navy and other maritime partners. Fathom Resources supported ANTX exercises with surface-supplied-air diving operations, in support of vehicle recovery needs. In addition, Fathom Resources provided two small boats with captain and crew to assist ANTX exercises as necessary.
